August 2021Kenneth Marvin Summy, 72, of Earlham, Iowa passed away August 28, 2021, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. A Celebration of Life Graveside service will be held 1:00 P.M. Friday, September 3, 2021, in the Earlham City Cemetery. For those needing to sit during the service feel free to bring along a lawn chair. Kenneth was born April 6, 1949, in Redfield, Iowa to Lyle and Dolores (Dunbar) Summy. He grew up on a farm outside of Earlham near Goeldner Woods. Kenneth graduated from Earlham High School and following high school he married his high school sweetheart, Dixie Piercy on February 2, 1968. Together they became the proud parents of two children, Stephanie, and Chad. Following their marriage, they made their home in Earlham to raise their family. Kenneth was a longtime employee of Monarch Cement where he worked until his retirement in 2012. Following his retirement, he worked for the city of Waukee and several local farms in the area. He was a member and Elder of the Earlham Presbyterian Church and a past member of the Earlham Fire Department. Kenneth was known as the go to guy and was always available to help anyone in need. He enjoyed being outside, hunting, working around his acreage, operating heavy equipment, red tractors, and his dogs. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family especially his grandkids.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Lyle and Dolores Summy, brother, Kevin Summy, and sister Karla Day.
Kenneth leaves behind to cherish his memory, his beloved wife of 53 years, Dixie Summy of Earlham; children, Stephanie (Eric) Raber and Chad (Sara) Summy; grandchildren, Charlie Summy, Lindsey Raber, Sophia Summy and Elsie Summy; siblings, Terry (Helen) Summy and Kay Bartelt; sister-in-law, Lorraine Summy; brother-in-law, Fred Day and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends all of whom will miss him greatly.
