September 2021Linda Barker, 57 of Winterset, passed away Monday, August 30, 2021 at the Madison County Memorial Hospital, surrounded by her family.
A visitation where family will greet friends will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, September 2, 2021 at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home Winterset Chapel. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, September 3 at the funeral home with burial to follow in the Winterset Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family.
Linda Lea Pickar was born in Ames, Iowa on April 29, 1964, the daughter of David and Janette (Banks) Pickar. She graduated from Winterset High School in 1982, graduated from Travel and Tourism School in Kissimmee, Florida in 1984, and also attended Upper Iowa University. She was united in marriage to Daniel Barker on April 12, 1997 in Patterson, Iowa. Together, they raised a beloved daughter, Maci.
Linda worked over 11 years as a Civil Clerk for the Madison County Sherriff’s office. She always said it was the best job she ever had. She enjoyed gambling, card making and spending time with family, especially during Christmas and New Year’s. She also loved scrapbooking. She was especially proud to have created over 1000 scrapbooks in 10 years for hospice families and veterans.
She was preceded in death by her father, David Pickar; maternal grandparents, Frank and Mabel Banks; paternal grandparents, Paul and Daisy Pickar; and father and mother-in-law, Richard and Margaret Barker.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Dan Barker of Winterset; her daughter, Maci Markfort (Quentin) of Renville, MN; her mother, Janette Pickar; her sister, Becky Conner (David) of Winterset; in-laws, Julie Carlson (Jay) of Urbandale, James Barker (Kristine) of Ashland, NE, Rick Barker (Michelle) of Waukee, and Joe Barker (Claire) of Overland Park, KS; and several loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. She has been truly blessed with a great circle of family and friends.
