Thomas (Tom) Michael Scott was the 3rd born son of Joseph James Scott (Scotty) and Arline Epsie (Nickless) Scott. He was born on September 4, 1943, in Des Moines, Iowa. He grew up on East 12th Street with this three brothers, Larry, Dennis, and Bill. Tom attended Dowling Catholic High School and graduated from East High.

Tom met and married Reta Joan Ward in 1962. To this union, they added four perfect children, (LOL), Tom, Theresa, Tony, and Todd. They made their home in various places in Des Moines and around Winterset, Iowa before settling in Patterson in 1974. In his earlier years, while raising his children, there were countless weekends full of camping and boating. Oh, the stories we have shared! Tom loved woodworking and was very talented and quite the perfectionist with the items he created. In his later years not only did he work at a casino, he loved to play the slots. We always heard of the times he won and often wondered about the money he spent. As they say, Tom was a tough ole cookie. In 2016 he survived an AAA (abdominal aortic aneurysm), a horrible case of shingles in 2020, and ultimately a hip replacement in 2021. Tom loved music and especially anything he could dance to. 50’s bebop booty shakin’ stuff was his favorite.

Tom passed from the world on August 11, 2021 at 12:30 a.m. at Good Samaritan in Indianola. He was 77 years old. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Scotty and Arline as well as his two older brothers, Larry and Dennis.

He is survived by his ex-wife Reta and four kids, Tom (Sharin) of MN, Theresa (Don) Houg of Winterset, Tony (Kelly) of Des Moines and Todd (Terri) of Winterset; 9 grandkids, Silke (Joe), Brady, Jesse (Jamie), Ginna (Chad), Riley (Emily), Tyler (Tracy), Nathan, Jared and Shane, and six great-grandchildren—Savannah, Giavanna, Calvin, Emilia, Kaisen and Briea.

We love you, Dad—Tom, Theresa, Tony, and Todd. Now fly high and free!!
