Viola Williams

Viola Williams passed away on July 16, 2021. She was born on April 21, 1930 in Winterset, Iowa where she resided her entire life. She was one proud Iowan!

Viola Powell married Ralph Williams in December of 1953 and was happily, lovingly married for 45 years. Viola worked for Iowa Power and Light for 15 plus years. Ralph later passed away in 1998. Viola was a member and a Sunday School teacher for the Presbyterian Church in Pitzer for a long time then later became a member at the First United Methodist Church in Winterset.

Besides being a hard-working farm wife, she was a devoted Grandma. She loved cooking and providing for her family. She “supplied meals in the fields,” her family would say since she would always make sure they had something to eat while working hard in the fields. Viola was an avid cookbook collector. Every time she cooked for her family, she would take notes and write down everything from the temperature, humidity, if her family liked what she cooked or not, and if she changed the recipe in any way. She also loved gardening, birds especially cardinals, coloring books, traveling to car shows, and being outdoors.
Viola is survived by her son John (Deb) Williams; grandsons Curtis (Alicia) and Ben Williams; daughter-in-law Sue Williams; and sister-in-law Katherine Weber. She is preceded in death by her husband Ralph Williams (1998); son Richard Williams (2021); and mother Lorraine Jameson(1997).

A visitation will be held on Thursday, July 31st, 2021 at 9:00 am at the First United Methodist Church, 309 E. Jefferson St., Winterset IA. A memorial service will follow at 10:00 am at the First United Methodist Church.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be donated to the Winterset Public Library.
