Elmer Glenn VanBuren

Elmer Glenn VanBuren, son of Armin C. VanBuren and Edna Elsie Behnke VanBuren was born January 11, 1927 in Iowa and passed from this life Friday, July 2, 2021 at Creston Nursing & Rehab Center at 94 years of age.

Elmer grew up in Truro, Iowa as a boy and received his education there.

He was united in marriage to Dorothy Irene Kimes VanBuren on September 2, 1948 in Osceola, Iowa and two children, Glenn and Renate blessed this union. In 1951, Elmer joined the United State Army and serviced during the Korean Conflict.

Elmer worked in Des Moines and owned his own gas station, Van's DX. In 1961, Elmer and Dorothy moved to Decatur County near Weldon and Garden Grove where they began farming and raising cattle and hogs. They lived on the farm for nearly thirty years until their retirement when they moved to Osceola and cared for his parents.

He enjoyed being a farmer and working with the land. He enjoyed working with the cattle, hogs and sheep and had satisfaction seeing them grow and make a good living and raising his family.

Those relatives who preceded Elmer in death were his wife, Dorothy Irene VanBuren, father, Armin C VanBuren, mother, Edna Elsie VanBuren, brother, Melvin VanBuren.

Elmer leaves to cherish his memory; son, Glenn (Christine) VanBuren of Osceola, IA, daughter, Renate (Robert) Johnson of Truro, IA, granddaughter, Michelle Adams, granddaughter, Katherine (Adam) Campbell, granddaughter, Jessica VanBuren, grandson, Joseph VanBuren and granddaughter, Rebecca VanBuren. He is also survived by his two great-grandchildren, Landon Campbell and Olivia Campbell as well as other relatives and many friends.

Services will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Tuesday July 6, 2021 at 2:30 pm with Pastor Daryl Thompkins officiating.

The family will greet friends from 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm Tuesday, July 6, 2021 prior to the service at the church.

Interment will be in the New Virginia Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be directed to his family.
