Art Goshorn, 57, a Winterset native, died January 9 in a Santa Rosa, California hospital following a long illness.
Born and raised in a newspaper family, Goshorn attended Grinnell College in Iowa and then returned to his home in Winterset where he took over management of the family’s weekly newspaper until he enlisted in the Air Force in June, 1941. He served in the Air Force 4 ˝ years, terminating his service with the rank of Captain, assigned as Chief of the International Intelligence Unit, headquarters Section Air Force, Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Following release from the service he joined the Oskaloosa, Iowa Daily Herald, where he served 21 years as advertising manager. While in Oskaloosa he was president of the Lions Club and Exalted Ruler of the Oskaloosa Elks B.P.O.E. No. 340. He was also a member of the American Legion and of Sigma Delta Chi, journalism fraternity.
He is survived by his wife, Caroline; three daughters, Carol of Fresno, California; Carla (Mrs. Don Tarr) of Oskaloosa; and Gayla, a student at the University of Iowa; and three sons, Keith of San Francisco; Kent, a student at the University of New Mexico; and Kert, at home, a student at Montgomery High. Also two sisters, Mrs. Brad Richie and Mrs. J. H. Wintrode, both of St. Petersburg, Florida.
Private family services will be held.
