Page 7, Columns 1-2Howard J. Ralston, 71, of 1915 Baltimore St., died Monday, Sept. 23, at Allen Memorial Hospital, of complications during surgery.
He was born Aug. 31, 1920, in Earlham, son of D. S. and Bessie Kerr Ralston. He married Mary Ann Burns on June 24, 1947, in Fresno, Calif. She died May 5, 1971. He married Frances Thompsen on Dec. 11, 1971 in Ralston, Neb.
He served during World War II in the Pacific Theater. He was a past president and man of the year in the Waterloo Sertoma Club and life member of the Retired Officers Association. He was an insurance representative for American Mural Life Insurance Co. until his retirement in 1985.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Rhoda Elaine Wright of Germany; two stepdaughters, Bonnie McDonald of Portland, Ore., and Debra Bertsch of Eugene, Ore.; a stepson, Alfred Thompsen of Eugene; a sister, Grace Grady of Cedar Rapids; a brother, Russell Ralston of Earlham; and three grandchildren and seven step grandchildren; he was preceded in death by a sister, Rosalie Morris and a brother, Walter Ralston.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at from 3 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Locke Funeral Home, where the family will be present from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday; there will be public masonic services conducted by Martin Lodge 624 A.F. and A.M. at 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church or a fund of the donors choice.
