Page 36Joseph W. Zeller, 100, a resident of the Heritage House, East Northampton Street, Wilkes-Barre, died there Wednesday after an illness.
He was born April 10, 1891, in Winterset, Iowa, a son of the late Elias R. and Harriet Cox Zeller. He resided many years at Long Island, N.Y. He practiced law in New York City from 1824-1961. Mr. Zeller was a graduate of Iowa Wesleyan College Class of 1912 and Harvard Law School Class of 1917. He served as assistant attorney general in the state of Iowa from 1963-1970. Mr. Zeller then resided in Clearwater, Fla., and in Wilkes-Barre since 1985.
He was an Army Veteran of World War I. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, Wilkes-Barre, and a former member of the Marble Collegiate Church, New York City.
A daughter, Mrs. Mary Z. Kerr, died Sept. 9, 1991.
Surviving are his wife, the former Mary Rowe, to whom he had been married since 1927, also a resident at Heritage House; daughters, Mrs. Margaret A. Carlson, Hancock, N.H.; Mrs. Elizabeth Z. Rivers, Philadelphia; 13 grand-children; 13 great-grand-children.
Private graveside funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family in Oak Lawn Cemetery, Hanover Township, with the Rev. W. Donald Lyon, pastor, St. Stephen's Church, and the Reverend David Rivers, of Philadelphia, officiating. Arrangements are by the Harold Snowdon Funeral Home, Wilkes-Barre.
