John S. Winslow

John (Jack) Steven Winslow passed away suddenly at his home in Cumming, Iowa on May 13, 2021. Jack was born in January 1952, the first son of John and Marian Winslow in Nevada, Iowa. He grew up in Chicago, Illinois; Toronto, Canada; and Des Moines, Iowa. Jack graduated from Valley High School in West Des Moines, Iowa in 1970. Following graduation, he enlisted in the Marine Corps and was stationed in San Diego, California in 1971. LCpl John Winslow was a member of Bravo Co. 1st Battalion, 3rd Marines. Jack, with seven other men, won the Annual Rifle Squad Combat Competition held at Quantico, VA receiving regimental awards and commendations.

Jack returned to Des Moines and earned his BS from Iowa State University. He married the love of his life, Pamela (Stanley) Winslow in 1974. Jack joined the Stanley Family farming business in Cumming for 10 years. He later worked for Massey Ferguson, Ford Motor Credit Co., and Ally Bank. Jack retired in 2019 with his wife of 47 years.

Jack was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing and boating on family vacations at Lake Okoboji. His grandchildren were the light of his life, spending family time fishing, kayaking, four wheeling and gathering around evening bonfires in their backyard. He was an amazing husband, father and grandfather. His presence will be forever missed.

Jack is survived by his wife, Pamela (Stanley) Winslow of Cumming; his sons Brian Winslow (Maureen Winslow) of Cumming; Jeffrey Winslow (Amanda Winslow) of West Des Moines; six grandchildren: Ethan, Wyatt, Olivia, Evelynn, Cora and Noah; his mother, Marian Winslow of Norwalk, Iowa; brother, Daniel Winslow of Windsor Heights; and sister, Nancy Winslow (Daniel Ruops) of Ramona, Calif. He was preceded in death by his father, John S. Winslow of Windsor Heights; and his older sister, Jane Winslow of San Diego, Calif.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, May 17 at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church in Norwalk, concluding with a 7 p.m. Vigil Service. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 18. A live-stream link may be found on this obituary page beginning at 10:15 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be at St. Patrick Irish Settlement Cemetery.

Memorial contributions are being directed to St. John the Apostle Church or Tunnel to Towers.
