Addie Hayden Dead

Very old residents will remember Addie Hayden, daughter of Elijah Hayden, who was local superintendent or manager of the Western Stage company. The Haydens moved to Indianola about 1868 and Hayden died there.

Addie Hayden outlived the whole family, though she was deformed and crippled, and died recently in the home of The Kings Daughters, in Louisville, Kentucky. A writer in the Advocate-Tribune pays a glowing tribute to her character and Chrisitan, cheerful life.

She gave music lessons, and was three times recorder of Warren county. Out of the money she saved she built a home and sacrificed it for destitute relatives in Kentucky where she went to take care of them. The little money she had was placed in a bank that failed and at the age of 65 she was destitute. Cheerfully she took her music work again until Kentucky friends found her a home with the Kings Daughters.
