Delbert Doyle Ashby, son of George William Ashby and Lucille (Thomas) Ashby was born January 20, 1953 in Des Moines, Iowa and passed from this life Monday, April 5, 2021 at VA Central Iowa Hospital in Des Moines at 68 years of age.

Doyle grew up in Central Iowa. He served in the U.S. Army from August 1971 to August 1973 during the Vietnam War. After being honorably discharged from the military, Doyle and his brothers began A & A Asphalt. Doyle then went on to run the road maintainer for Madison County Secondary Roads from 1984 until 1991 when he started Son’s Construction. He owned and operated Son’s Construction from 1991 until 2008 when he began working for Kinder-Morgan Natural Gas Pipeline, where he was currently employed. Doyle attended Martensdale Community Church where he served on the missions committee and as the Deacon of Fellowship.

Doyle was united in marriage to Debra Sue Thompson on November 3, 1990 at the Broadhorn Church near St. Charles, Iowa. He loved his grandchildren and loved creating new games for them to play or new ways for them to have an adventure with Papa. Doyle enjoyed the outdoors, boating, fishing, camping and working on his old cars. He enjoyed slowing down, sitting on his porch with Deb and spending time in his Bible with the Lord. Doyle was a generous, loving man who could make friends with anyone he met.

Doyle was preceded in death by his parents, George and Lucille Ashby, sister, Peggy Otto, brothers, George Eddie Ashby, Terry Ashby and Bob Ashby and son, Bobby Lee Ashby.

Doyle leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife Deb Ashby of Norwalk, IA, his sons Shilow (Gina) Ashby of Bayard, IA, Mike (Crystal) Ashby of Murray, IA and Kenny (Jesse) Halstead of Truro, IA, his daughters Melanie (Josh) Bickford of Roselle, IL and Kelsey (Cale) Quall of Redding, IA, brothers Ed Otto of Murray, IA, Jim (Dee) Ashby of Winterset, IA , Rick (Carol) Ashby of Truro, IA and Steve Ashby of Truro, IA. Doyle also leaves behind his 11 grandchildren Skylar, Meadow, Mickey, Mikey, Cameron, Cora, Flora, Luna, Madi, Elias and Archer and one great-grandchild Brionna as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Funeral services will be held at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola, Friday April 9, 2021 at 11:00 am with Pastor James "Pete" Sheesley officiating.

Family will greet friends from 10:00 to 11:00 prior to the funeral on Friday.

The use of face coverings are REQUIRED. If you are unable to attend the service in person, a live stream will be available at kalefuneralhome.com on Delbert’s tribute wall beginning at 11:00 am, Friday.

Interment will follow in the Union Cemetery in Clarke Co.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to VA Central Iowa Health Hospital in Des Moines, IA.
