Margaret Ann Lawson, 53, of Indianola died from complications of cancer Nov. 17, 2000 at her home.

Memorial services were held Tuesday, Nov. 21, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Cumming.

Margaret Lawson was born March 26, 1947, to the Rev. Francis B. and Ruby (Martin) Harris of Orient. She attended Baxter School in kindergarten and first grade. She then attended school in Panora, graduating in 1965. She majored in music at Simpson College in Indianola where she was a member of the Mu Phi Epsilon Music Sorority (president) and Delta Delta Delta Sorority. She received her master’s degree in music from the University of Wisconsin in Whitewater, Wis.

On Aug. 2, 1972, she was united in marriage to Blair W. Lawson of Indianola. Margaret had taught in the school districts of Martensdale-St. Marys, Pleasantville, Park Avenue, Sacred Heart and Norwoodville and had been a director of the Indianola Presbyterian Choir. She was a member of the Indianola Federated Music Club, Right-To-Life and Midwest Kodaly Education Association.

She was preceded in death by her father.

She is survived by her husband of Indianola; and her mother, Ruby Harris of Winterset.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Kiya Koda Humane Society of Indianola.

Transcriber’s note: Cemetery records from the Winterset Cemetery indicate that her ashes were inurned on top of her mother, after her mother passed away in 2002.
