Winterset - Grace Ventimiglia Hatcher, 64, went to be with her Heavenly Parent on November 23, 2020, dying peacefully at home with her family present.

Beginning life on April 17, 1956 as Dale Marie Ventimigla in New York, New York, Grace was a stillborn premie. Life was never a sure thing for Grace, she apparently had a strong desire to live, as she was found an hour later crying in an incubator. As a small child she loved her dollies, all animals, and her baby brother. Growing through the school years she took every opportunity to sing and dance. These were pastimes she pursued even as an adult. She was a motivated student but hungered for a relationship with God, though this was not a family tradition.

In her teen years her relationship with God continued to be a primary focus. She met her husband, Duane, at high school church choir practice. Their first date was a Valentine dance. She was 14 and he was a week past his 16th birthday. They were married in Fort Worth, Texas at Western Hills Baptist Church in 1975, and their goal was a 50th wedding anniversary.

Grace earned her BSN from the University of Texas at Austin in 1976. She worked as a nurse until the onset of her terminal illness. Grace achieved an MSN from the University of Nebraska Medical Center and practiced as a psychiatric nurse practitioner from 1994-2018.

Grace is survived by her husband, Duane, and their 3 children, Morgan Zimmerer (Isaac) of Fort Worth, Texas, Emma Hoegh (Andy)of Bozeman, Montana, and Charles Landon Hatcher of Des Moines, Iowa. She has 2 grandsons in Ft Worth and 2 granddaughters in Bozeman. She has a brother, Nick Ventimiglia and niece, Jessie Grace, in Salado, Texas. Grace was proceeded in death by her parents, Charles and Charlotte (Hall) Ventimiglia.

The family wants to express our appreciation to the healthcare providers of EveryStep Hospice, MissionCancer, MD Anderson Cancer Center, Madison County Memorial Hospital, MercyOne, and Iowa Methodist Medical Center, and her many friends for their care and support of Grace. We could not ask for better.

Grace was able to attend a pre-funeral party and fireworks in her honor in October. Per her wish, cremation rites have been accorded and no further services are planned. Donations in Grace's memory may be directed to EveryStep Hospice or Heiffer Project.
