Well-Known Educator

Earl Roland Sifert, 86, a nationally known educator and resident of Ridgecrest Retirement Village, Davenport, for 10 years, died Sunday at the village after an extended illness.

A prayer service will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at Runge Mortuary. Additional services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Earlham Friends Church, Earlham, Iowa. Burial will be in Earlham Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Ridgecrest Retirement Village.

Mr. Sifert was public school administrator in various cities in Iowa, Minneapolis, Minn., Oklahoma City, Okla., and Maywood, Ill.

He was born in Sheldon, Iowa. He married Princelle Thomas in 1918 in Earlham.

He received a B.A. from Des Moines College in 1913, an M.A. from the University of Iowa in 1926, and a Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota in 1942.

He was the director of U.S. Army independent schools in Europe, and received a special commendation from the commander-in-chief of the U.S. Army in Europe.

He was visiting professor of education at Texas Tech University; past president of North Central Assn. of Secondary Schools and Colleges; a member emeritus of Phi Beta Kappa; past president of the Lions Club, Maywood, Ill.; a member of many national committees on education, and an Army veteran of World War I.

He was a member of the First Christian Church, Davenport.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Parker (Charlotte) Jones, Barrington, Ill.; a son, Thomas, Davenport; six grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
