Grant Shifflett, 78, Dies Tuesday Evening

Grant Shifflett, 78, retired farmer residing at 1107 East Tenth street, died at 8:15 Tuesday evening at the Heritage House infirmary where he had been a patient since Nov. 7. Mr. Shifflett was a member of the Iowa house of representatives in the 46th, 46th extra, 47th and 54th general assemblies and was in the banking business in Tingley, Diagonal and Mt. Ayr 12 years.

He was born in Bureau county, Ill., Dec. 12, 1890, the son of Harry and Della Keel Shifflett and moved with his parents to Hamilton county in 1900. A year later they moved to Madison county and he graduated from the Earlham high school in 1910. He attended Coe college and graduated from the Cedar Rapids business college. Mr. Shifflett and Mary L. Compton were married at Earlham in 1914 and farmed in Ringgold county. He was a member of the Atlantic First United Methodist church.

Surviving are his wife, a daughter, Mrs. John Waters of Atlantic; a sister, Mrs. Charles Henry of Des Moines and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Scott Shifflett and a sister, Mrs. Homer Lee.

Funeral services will be held Friday morning at 11 o’clock at the Roland Funeral home, the Rev. Robert McBlain officiating. Graveside services will be held at 2:30 Friday afternoon at the Earlham cemetery.
