Posted by family member.Bonnie Jean (Bezoni) Clarkson, 89, passed away peacefully on October 30, 2019 in Prosper, TX.
Bonnie Jean Bezoni was born in Sac City, IA, to George L. Bezoni and Opal E. Baichtal. She grew up in Spencer, IA. She attended the Spencer Public School System, graduating from the Spencer High School. She also attended Buena Vista College, graduating with a teaching degree. She taught elementary children for a time and then in a rather epic romance, Bonnie married the love of her life, Philip Wayne Clarkson, Sr., in 1952. The rest is family history.
To this union was born 5 children, with the family eventually settling in the Waterloo, Iowa area. Bonnie was a devoted wife and mother, along with being an entrepreneur. For over 30 years she owned and operated, from the home, an antique auto parts business. Bonnie was a member of Nazareth Lutheran Church for many years. She was a lover of the presence and smiles of children, Persian cats, and conversation around the dining room table. Bonnie lived with her oldest daughter in Georgia for 1.5 years before moving to Texas to be close to her youngest son for the last few years of her life.
She is survived by her children: Philip Clarkson Jr. (Barbara) of Coralville, Iowa; Jon Clarkson (Dee) of Windsor Heights, Iowa; Christopher Clarkson (Susan) of Denton, Texas; Lisa Garey (Richard) of Sharpsburg, Georgia; Rebecca Smith (Dean) of Cedar Falls, Iowa and foster son Hung Nguyen of Alabama; brother-in-law Jack Clarkson of Phoenix, Arizona; 21 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren and numerous nephews and nieces.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband Philip Wayne Clarkson, Sr. of nearly 65 years; her parents George and Opal Bezoni; 2 brothers George and David; and nephew Robert Eklov.
A time of gathering will be held Saturday November 2, 2019, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. with funeral services at 1:00 p.m. at Christ the Servant Lutheran Church – 2121 E University Dr., Denton, TX 76209 with burial to follow in Roselawn Memorial Park, Denton. Memorial donations may be made to Alzheimer Association or Foundation and the Southern Poverty Law Center.
