SERVICES DEC. 17 – DALLAS RESIDENT

Services for Edward Lee Best, 63, were held Saturday in Union Chapel near Van Meter, conducted by the pastor, the Rev. E. A. Elliott. Mr. Best was born near Post Byron, Illinois, April 18, 1869, and died at the Methodist hospital in Des Moines December 15.

He (sic) father died when he was a boy and at the age of sixteen with his mother and three sisters he came from Pennsylvania to Dallas county, Iowa. The last eight years the family had been living on the George Gutshall farm north of Union Chapel.

He was married to Ida Smith of Winterset February 25, 1901. Two of their four children died in infancy, and a third child at the age of nine. His wife, a son and a grandchild survive.
