Patricia Louise Whisner (Merical), age 82, died peacefully in her sleep in Winterset, Iowa on September 7, 2020. Private family services will be held on Saturday.
Patricia was born May 19, 1938 in Royal Oak, Michigan to the late Dale and Ann Merical (Boudewyns). The Merical family returned to Adel in 1939, where her father ran the local DX station on Greene Street. Patty graduated from Adel High School in 1956 where she was active in basketball and softball. She married Lyle Whisner on August 4, 1957 at the Adel Methodist Church.
Patty and her husband Lyle, lived in the Adel area for over 40 years where they owned and operated Whisner and Son Construction along with an antique store at their residence in rural Adel. In 1983 they moved to Dallas Center where they continued with their construction business and opened an antique store in downtown Dallas Center. They both enjoyed traveling and searching for antiques.
Patricia enjoyed baking and preparing large meals and was known as a wonderful cook. She enjoyed sewing, playing cards, antiquing, and was a member of the Red Hat Club. Patty was passionate about spending time with her family and watching her children and grandchildren in their many activities.
Patricia is survived by her 3 children: son, Michael (Gloria) Whisner, Adel; daughters, Annie Cumpton (Albert) Rich Hill, Missouri; Linda Brannon (Daryl) Bollivar, Missouri; sister, Marilyn Oberg (Larry) Perry, Iowa; 10 grandchildren: Kyle Whisner, Lisbon, IA; Alicia Fisher, Adel; Kolby Whisner, Adel; James and Samatha Hopes-Cumpton, Rich Hill, Missouri; Clayton Cumpton, Rich Hill, Missouri; Jeffery Cumpton, Springfield, Missouri; Cody Brannon, Bolivar, Missouri; Katelyn Choate Morrisville, Missouri; William Brannon, Bolivar, Missouri, and 10 great grandchildren.
Patricia was preceded in death by her husband Lyle, infant sons, Lyle Jr. and Jeffrey, twin brother Ron, sister Kathy Furr, and parents Dale and Ann Merical.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the ADM Alumni Association in Patricia’s name.
