Fall from Window at Son's Home on July 5 Proven Fatal to Aged Woman
Mrs. Henry Evans, 85, died Sunday at 2:15 p.m. at the home of her son, Charles Evans and family in Audubon.
Complications which resulted from an 18 foot fall from a second story window at her son's home on July 5 proved fatal to Mrs. Evans. Blind, she apparently became confused in her directions and fell from a window of her bedroom to a concrete driveway. No bones were broken, and for several days her doctor and members of her family were hopeful that she might recover. She began to grow weaker Friday.
Born in Indiana
Mrs. Evans, widow of the late Dr. Robert Evans, was born July 25, 1848, near Logansport, Indiana. Her name was Mary Fairholm. When she was about 18 years old she moved to Winterset Ia., where she married Dr. Evans on March 9, 1870.Dr. Evans was a practicing physician at Winteset, Randolph, Avoca and Panora before moving to Audubon with his family 54 years ago. He died Oct. 23, 1908.
Mrs. Evans made Audubon her home for the remainder of her life. She had lived a greater part of the time for a number of years with the son at whose home she died. She became partially blind about six years ago, but her health continued good in other respects until abut two years since.
The Survivors
She is survived by ten children, as follows: Mrs. Jennie Thompson, Los Angeles, Calif.; A.H. Evans, Lexington, Nebr.; Mrs. H.N. McLeran, Audubon; Mrs. W.D. Graves, Council Bluffs; Mrs. W.C. Beason, Chicago; Mrs. W.T. Johnson, Washington, D.C.; Ed Evans, Audubon; Robert Evans, Wray, Colo.; Mrs. W.W, Smith, Rexburg, Idaho, and Chas. Evans, Audubon.Other survivors include 24 grandchildren, 16 great grand children, and one great great grandchild and one sister. The great great grandchild is Judith, 3 years old, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Schoof of Ohio. The sister is Mrs. Aaron Francis of Earlham, Ia.
Two children preceded Mrs. Evans in death. A daughter, Margaret, died when she was two years old, and a son, Tad, died several years ago at the age of 48 years.
Funeral services for Mrs. Evans were held Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at the F.H. McFadden funeral home in Audubon, the Rev. Ira E. Carney, Audubon Christian pastor, officiating. Burial was in Maple Grove cemetery.
