Arthur (Art) Blaschke, 92, of Cumming died on Friday, August 28, 2020, at Edencrest at The Legacy in Norwalk, Iowa.
A joint Celebration of Life will be held on September 18, 2020 for Art and Marian Blaschke, at the Iowa Veteran’s Cemetery. Marian passed away on November 15, 2017. Due to Covid-19 recommendations, the service will be for family members only. Memorials may be directed to St. Paul Lutheran Church in Winterset, Iowa.
Arthur Henry Blaschke, son of Herbert (Herb) and Mae (Cosby) Blaschke, was born on December 8, 1927, in Fredericksburg, Iowa. Art was united in marriage with Marian (Miehe) Blaschke on May 28, 1950; three daughters were born to this union. The couple moved to Winterset in 1961.
Art served in the United States Navy with the rank of Fireman, during World War II. He worked in rock quarries the majority of his life after his service in the Navy. He operated any and every piece of equipment used in the rock quarry and worked up to superintendent. He retired from Gendler Stone Products, which was acquired by Schildberg Construction Products. After leaving the quarry, he worked unloading semi-trailers at Sysco Foods. He enjoyed fishing, collecting watch fobs, gardening, biking, and playing cards. He and Marian appreciated Madison County Meal Site where they often took advantage of the meals and fellowship found there. They were also snowbirds and enjoyed taking their RV to Texas for the winter, where his brother was also a snowbird. While in Texas, he enjoyed woodworking and making puzzles for family and friends. Above all else, Art loved his family and cherished visits from his daughters, grandchildren, great grandchildren and grand dogs. He would get the biggest smile on his face when he won the game of King’s Corner against his daughters or while giving one of the dogs treats. He will be missed.
Left to cherish his memory are three daughters: Kathi (Gary) Haymond of Blue Springs, MO, Sheri (Phil) Matlage of Winterset, and Janet (Brad) Brown of Cumming; his brother, LaVerne Blaschke and sister-in-law, Mary Lou Blaschke; six grandchildren: Kim (Matt), Andrea, Sarah (Dylan), Paul (Sarah), Kayla, and Kyle (Bre); seven great-grandchildren: Cormac, Liam, Rowan, Lincoln, Jackson, Alex, and Kate; and three grand dogs: Jackie, Austin, and Mayhem; extended family and a host of friends.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Marian; parents, Herb and Mae Blaschke, Kay Blaschke (stepmom); brothers, Lee (Rose) Blaschke, Orville Blaschke, and sister-in-law, Mary Blaschke.
