Paul J. Sanders, 73, of Greenfield, Iowa, died Saturday, August 8, 2020, at the Greenfield Rehab and Healthcare Center in Greenfield, Iowa.

A Celebration of Life Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Friday, August 14, 2020, at Powers Funeral Home 601 New York Ave. in Creston. Social Distancing will be necessary. Pastor Phil Price will officiate.

Flag Presentation by the Creston V.F.W.

Burial will be private at the Eureka Cemetery northwest of Fontanelle.

Memorials can be given to the family.

Paul J. Sanders was born on February 11, 1947, to Paul Leon and Nina Faye (Johnston) Sanders in Leon, Iowa. He was raised in the Lenox area and graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in Council Bluffs. Paul served in the U. S. Army during Vietnam from 1967 to 1969. Paul also studied at Des Moines Area Community College studying printing. He worked at Creative Printers near Drake University for 5 years, then with Hublena Chemical Co in Des Moines.

On February 20, 1988, Paul married Evelyn Mae (Jackson) Shimer in Council Bluffs.
Paul worked with the city of Carlisle helping with the street dept. He also worked with the Great Plaines Bag Company, a farm hand in Macksburg, Creston New Advertiser and with SWCC for Business Machines. Evelyn died in 2014. Paul moved to the Greenfield Rehab and Healthcare center in July 2019.

Paul is survived by his sister Edith Sanders of Creston, Iowa, local nephew, David Atteberry (significant other Misty Darst) of Orient and Brian Atteberry of Liberty, Mo. and numerous other nieces and nephews.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Evelyn, his brother Dick Sanders in 2017, his sister Terrie Atterberry in 2019, and his nephew Alan Atteberry in 2019.
