Elmer Boss Dead

Elmer Boss, who worked for the Hamilton land agency, several years ago died at Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, recently. He was married in Winterset, and is well remembered by our people. The following is taken from The News of that town:

Death came suddenly to Elmer Elsworth Boss this Wednesday morning when he passed away at his home in the east end at 12:45 a. m. He was 57 years of age. Rheumatism was the cause of his death.

The news of Mr. Boss’s death was a sad shock to the community. During all the day and evening before he had been in his usual health and actively engaged in looking after his business affairs. Late in the night, however, he took suddenly ill. A physician was summoned, but nothing could be done to save his life.

Mr. Boss was born in Iowa where he lived for years, and prior to his locating in Punxsutawney had been abstractor of land titles. He moved to this place in 1911 and engaged in Building Supply and Cement Business with Peffer & Son.

His first acquaintance with Punxsutawney people showed he was a man of sterling qualities, honest and upright in his dealings. He advocated and practiced the better things which stood for the good of the community and society.

He was intensely interested in church work, being a member of the First M. E. church. He had made arrangements to attend the Erie Conference at Franklin this week as a lay delegate representing his church at the lay delegates’ conference.

By his modest bearing, his friendly disposition and honest methods he won the friendship and respect of everybody, and by his death the town loses a respected and valuable citizen.

He is survived by his wife, who was Miss Ella Peffer, daughter of George Peffer, and four children, namely; Roxana, of Maple Hill, Iowa; Lenore, Ellsworth and George at home.

Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon and burial made in Circle Hill cemetery.
