Marjorie Patterson, of Martensdale, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 18, 2020 at the Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines.

Marjorie Verlene Patterson was born on June 22, 1935 at a farmhouse near Fontanelle, Iowa. She was born to Carl and Ester Kreis and the sister of John, Mardell and Carolyn. Marge was a graduate of Fontanelle High School, Class of 1953. She was married to Max Garland Palmer on May 30, 1953 and they moved to Macksburg, Iowa on a small farm where they raised dairy and beef cattle, hogs and sheep. She worked at WHO 1040 Radio for several years until working full time on the farm with Max. On August 6, 1962, Max and Marge welcomed Delane Max Palmer to the world.

Max preceded Marge in death in 1982. She married Harold Patterson on November 18, 1983. Marge and Harold lived together on his farm and then later moved to Macksburg. They enjoyed traveling and gardening. He preceded her in death in 1992.

Marge was a passionate agriculturalist. After moving to Winterset and later Martensdale, she continued her career at the Madison County Auction. She worked as the financial assistant for 40 years. Her summers were spent at the Warren County Fair and the Iowa State Fair, both of which she loved dearly. You would often find her watching her grandchildren show sheep or taking bids at the auctions. Marge was also a volunteer for the Madison County Cattlemen’s and as a judge at the Madison County Fair.

Throughout her life, Marge attended the Macksburg United Methodist Church and Hope Lutheran Church where she grew in her faith and loved to listen to the church choir sing on Sunday. Her famous chocolate pies were often enjoyed during the holidays and she enjoyed watching her grandkids playing sports. She would try her best to never to miss a game.

Marjorie is survived by her son, Delane Palmer; grandchildren Arianna and Joshua Palmer; sisters, Mardell (Gene) Martin and Carolyn (Arden) Strouts; and sister-in-law, Bernice Kreis.

Marge was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Ester; her husbands, Max and Harold; and her brother, John Kreis.
