Delmer F. Brown, 91, of Creston, died August 7, 2020 at home.

Celebration of life funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, August 12, 2020 at the Powers Funeral Home 601 New York Avenue in Creston. Pastor Ben Allen Carter and Pastor Jim Morris will officiate.

Social distancing will be observed. This Service will be Live Streamed on the Powers Funeral Home Facebook Page.

Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery northeast of Creston.

Open visitation will be from 2-7 Tuesday, with family receiving friends from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at Powers Funeral Home in Creston. Memorials can be given to the Creston Lions Club or the Evergreen Cemetery. Online condolences can be given at powersfh.com.

Delmer Floyd Brown was born September 18, 1928 in Brentwood, Ark. in Washington County to Ruby Ellen (Fine) and Floyd Dudley Brown. Delmer attended several different country schools. Prior to graduation, during war time, he drove the school bus at the age of 16 for three years. Delmer graduated from Zion Consolidated High School in 1947 and later graduated from Creston Junior College in 1949.

In 1948, Delmer began farming 160 acres and he did this while he was going to college. On July 31, 1949 Delmer was united in marriage to Phyllis G. Lauer. They were married for 51 years. To this union one daughter Linda Elaine was born. Phyllis died in 2000. In 1955, they purchased the Bennett farm northeast of Creston. They resided at this location while farming various area locations with his dad and brother Darrell.

Delmer milked cows for over 19 years while continuously increasing his farrowing production during those years. At the end of his farming career he was farming roughly 1400 acres.

During his life he served on the Farm Bureau Board, Extension Council, Pig Feeder Board, Farmers Coop Board, the Adair County Sheriff’s Reserve Possee and was a member of the Creston Lions Club. In 1973, Delmer earned his pilot’s license. Delmer was a part of the security team for the filming of the movie “Bridges of Madison County”.

Following Delmer’s farm sale in January, 1995 he officially retired from farming and moved to Creston. But it didn’t take long before he was ready for another challenge and returned to school to earn his Real Estate License. He was an agent for 17 year and retired at the age of 85.

On April 20, 2002 Delmer was united in marriage to Alice (Cameron) Blair at the Macksburg United Methodist Church. They were married for 18 years.

Delmer is survived by his wife Alice Brown of Creston, daughter Linda (husband Craig) Busch of Winterset; three grandsons, Todd (wife Lynette) Busch, Scott (wife Kelly) Busch, Curtis (wife Kamy); seven great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, brother Darrell Brown; nephew David (friend Crystal) Brown; sister-in-law Marilyn Fils; brother-in-law David (wife Marge) Lauer. A second family that includes step-daughter Barbara Blair, two step-sons, Darrell (wife Carolyn) Blair and Kevin (wife Donna) Blair; seven step-grandchildren; twenty step-great-grandchildren.

Delmer was preceded in death by his parents, wife Phyllis, brothers-in-laws Dick Fils, Rollin Lauer and Homer (wife Martha) Lauer.
