MRS.COMPSTON DIES – SERVICES MONDAY

Had Lived Near Pitzer Over Forty-two Years. Burial At Winterset

Mrs. A. R. Compston, 75, died Saturday at the Winterset hospital where she had been a patient several weeks. Services were Monday afternoon at the Methodist church conducted by the pastor, the Rev. A. P. Keast; burial was in the Winterset Cemetery.

Mrs. Compston was Matilda Nicholson, daughter of Henry and Maria Nicholson, one of a family of eleven children. She was born near Solon, Iowa, September 14, 1855. Her marriage to Joseph Jerome DeVault took place October 24, 1879 at Lisbon.

For over forty-two years they made their home on a farm near Pitzer. Mr. DeVault died in 1922; a son George, died in infancy and another son, Ralph, died at the age of thirty-eight.

Mrs. DeVault was married September 8, 1924 to A. R. Compston. After living five years at Longton, Kansas, they moved to the Pitzer farm.

She is survived by her husband, a son, Grover DeVault of Chicago; a daughter, Mrs. Ralph C. Crouse of Winterset; and five grandchildren.
