Sherry Burton, Van Wert

Sherry McKeever Burton, 61, of Van Wert passed away Jan. 31, 2020, at Iowa Methodist Hospital.

Per Sherry’s wishes, she was cremated. A celebration of life service will be held 10:30 a.m. on Aug. 8, at the Peru Cemetery, followed by lunch at the Peru Church at 12:00. A free-will donation memorial may be made to the church in memory of Sherry.

Sherry Lynn McKeever was born July 13, 1958, in Des Moines, the first daughter of Monty and Betty (Ham) McKeever. She grew up in Peru, and attended Winterset schools, graduating in 1976. Sherry married Rodney Penick; to this union a daughter was born. Rodney passed in 1978. Sherry worked at Fareway for several years. In June of 1984, Sherry met Carl Burton. They married Sept. 17, 1988. She helped raise three step children. The Burtons lived in Peru for many years. She attended college, graduating with an associates in counseling. Sherry and Carl moved to Winterset. She worked at Crossroads Mental Health for 18 years. She retired in Van Wert.

Sherry was preceded in death by her first husband, Rodney Penick; and her parents, Monty and Betty McKeever.

She is survived by her husband of 35 years, Carl Burton; daughter, Heather (Quintin) Dean; step children Carl Burton Jr. (Andrea) of Springfield, Mo., Carly Burton of Des Moines, and Lindsey (James) White of Des Moines; siblings, Mark (Rhonda) McKeever of Winterset, Tammy (Bud) Lincoln of St. Charles, and Pamela (David) Gamble of East Peru; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
