Otto Thomas "Tom" Bussanmas, age 49, of Bevington, died peacefully Tuesday evening at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.
Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Friday, July 24th with the family present to receive guest from 5 to 7 p.m. at O'Leary Funeral Services in Norwalk. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 25th at the funeral home. Memorials to Heinz 57 Rescue in DeSoto and Children's Cancer Connection will be accepted.
Tom's Life Story
Tom the son of Otto Thomas and Maxine Ruth (Crow) Bussanmas, was born on March 6, 1971 in Des Moines, Iowa. A life-long resident of Bevington, Iowa he grew-up there and attended Martensdale-St. Marys School graduating with the Class of 1989. Following high school he attended Northwest Missouri State. Tom had a passion for computers helping to computerize his father's business, Bussanmas Towing & Repair. He worked for ABC Communication in Des Moines helping to repair customer's computers and their programs. He met Michelle Lynn McLennan through mutual friends and they were later married on July 2, 2005 at Candle Lit Way Wedding Chapel in Dallas Center, Iowa. Together they made their home in Norwalk, Des Moines, Prole and finally settling in Bevington. Together they enjoyed eating out and movies, traveling (to Disney World and two cruises; one of which included the Hawaii Islands), going to Renaissance Fairs, and especially hanging out with family and friends.
Tom enjoyed many hobbies, including woodworking, making jewelry (chain-maille), and grilling which he loved to try new recipes. Tom overcame many life challenges of which include Leukemia where he survived a bone marrow transplant, three strokes, and numerous surgeries and illnesses which all took a tole on his health. These past few years he resided at Regency Care Center in Norwalk while going back and forth between there and spending time with his wife at their home in Bevington.
On Tuesday evening, July 21, 2020, Tom earned his dragon-wings, passing away with his wife Michelle at his side. He was preceded in death by his nephew, Harold; and his father-in-law, James McLennan.
Tom leaves to celebrate his life his wife, Michelle; parents, Otto and Maxine of Bevington; two brothers, Jeff (Deanna) of Bevington and Ken (Susan) of Olathe, KS; mother-in-law, Karen Pearson and brother-in-law, Mike McLennan both of Omaha, NE; two nieces and a three nephews, Heather (Ramsey), Sarah, Sean (Jessica), Nick (Randi), and Jeffrey; and a host of several great-nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
