Matilda Mitchell, daughter of Matthew and Maryan Mitchell, was born near Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, September 18, 1857. She passed from this life February 27, 1930 at her home in Greenfield, Iowa, being 72 m, 5 months and 9 days old. With her parents she came to Iowa at the age of 11 years, locating on a farm west of Winterset, where she grew to womanhood.
On March 24, 1881 she married Charles A. Gaskill, who passed away March 4, 1895. To this union were born three children: Charles B. Gaskill, whose death occurred December 2, 1927, at Yreka, California, as the result of an automobile accident. The other two children, Mrs. Mary K. Mills, of Osceola, Iowa and Bennett Gaskill of Des Moines, Iowa were with her the last few days of her life.
On June 10, 1896 she was married to Holin P. Scofield, of Adair county. They made their home in this and adjoining counties until 1908 when they moved to Greenfield, where they have resided since. She is survived by her husband and her two children.
