M. Heard died New Year’s day

Funeral services for a St. Ansgar resident, Mrs. Madge Heard, 84, were held last Friday at the United Methodist church there. Mrs. Heard died New Year’s day at the Good Samaritan Nursing Center where she had been a resident since July.

The Rev. Bud Wilder, church pastor, was in charge of the rites and arrangements were by Schroeder and Dunn funeral directors, burial was in the St. Ansgar city cemetery.

Madge Angeline Goff was born in Madison county near Winterset, Aug. 11, 1889, the daughter of Alfred M. and Lucinda Trester Goff. She was baptized and joined the Methodist church as a young woman.

Walter L. Heard and Madge Goff were married Feb. 19, 1913. They farmed at Buckeye, Meltonville, Carpenter, and St. Ansgar until his death in 1951. Later she moved to St. Ansgar. Mrs. Heard held a life membership in the Women’s Society of Christian Service of the United Methodist church.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Walter; her parents, three brothers and an infant grandson.

Surviving are her two daughters, Mrs. Duane Burton (Elizabeth) of Seattle Wash., and Mrs. Robert Chancellor (Opal Mae) of St. Ansgar, four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, one brother, Glen Goff at Osage Nursing Home, nieces and nephews.
