John H. Evans, Early Nebraska Lawyer, Dies

Thedford Attorney Defended Doc Middleton and Member of His Gang of Ruslters

Thedford, Neb. Dec 13 - John H. Evans, 80, pioneer western Nebraska lawyer, died Thursday at his home of heart disease following an illness of two days.

Evans was actively engaged in the practice of law for 40 years in Nebraska and was one of the attorneys who defended Doc Middleton, famous Nebraska cattle rustler, 40 years ago. Evans appeared as attorney for the defendants accused of several murders growing out of that case.

Evans is survived by two sons, Therron, a rancher, and Ivan D., county attorney of Thomas county, and a daughter, Mrs. F. B. Wickham, all of Thedford. A brother, Alex, of Stillwater, Okla., and four grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Anselmo, Neb., with the Masonic lodge officiating. He will be buried at Thedford.
