At dawn of a beautiful “May-Day” morning, when all nature was ready to burst into bloom, the spirit of Fenner P. Field passed from all suffering to the “country that hath no pain.” His death was not unexpected as for many months it was known to be inevitable.
The Field family originally came from Providence, R. I., but in line of westward march. Seril Field located near Cooperstown, New York, where Fenner Field was born October 24th, 1855. In 1874 the family moved to Quincy, Michigan, and located upon what is known as the “old Field farm” near the Lake school house.
In 1878 he left the old home and entered the clothing business in Quincy with his sister’s husband, George Woodworth.
He was married in May 1884 to Mertella E. Nichols, of Quincy. Two years after their marriage they moved to Winterset Iowa, and engaged in farming. After eight years in Iowa, the family returned to Michigan and for eight years were located upon the old family homestead. They then removed to their present home in Quincy where Mr. Field died May 1, 1922 at the age of 66 years.
Of Mr. Field’s own family there remain to mourn his loss an older brother, (J)esse of Quincy, who has greatly assisted in his brother’s care and one sister, Mrs. Raleigh Kershaw, of Chicago. - The Quincy Herald.
