OBITUARIES – Mary Bardrick Leasman

Mary Bardrick, oldest daughter of William and Jane Bardrick, was born on farm near the town Winfield, Illinois on October 15, 1845. At the age of eight years, she with her parents emigrated to Madison county by oxen wagons, she having endured the hardships of pioneer.

She was married to Henry C. Leasman on October 3, 1869 and has lived on their old homestead near Barney, Iowa in Madison county until she died.

Nine children were born to this union: Charles H., Ilot, Anna, Jennie, Elmer, Bessie, Fred, Minnie and Jesse, all of whom survive, and were with her during her last illness and did everything in their power to be a help to her and try to alleviate her sufferings.

She had been failing in health for about two years but not until about seven months ago did she require the immediate attention of one. Then she became stricken with dropsy and grew worse and suffered so intensely until God called her on Saturday, April 29 at the age of 76 years 6 months and 14 days.

The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Brown of the Methodist church at the home on Tuesday, May 2 at two o’clock and interment was made in the Barney Cemetery.

She leaves to mourn her death nine children, two sisters, one brother and a host of friends. This is a brief sketch of a useful life that has gone out she having been a loving and devoted mother and a good kind neighbor. Her home was noted for its hospitality to the wayfarer as well as her friends for the latch key was always hanging out.
