Josephus Benjamin Franklin Clark (better known as Joe) was one of fifteen children born to Benjamin Franklin and Mary Jane Harman Clark, on March 21, 1888 in Funkstown, Maryland, and passed away July 23, 1977 at the Madison Manor North in Winterset, Iowa.

On August 24, 1925 he was married to Kate A. Dinges, at Albia Iowa, and five daughters were born to this union.

Joe was a lover of the better things of life. He was baptized at the age of eight, in the Methodist Church. He loved to go to Sunday School as a boy, often attending a Lutheran Sunday School in the morning, and then attending a Methodist Sunday School in the afternoon. He loved to sing hymns as he worked in the field. Neighbors hearing him, would stop and listen, and when he discovered that they were listening to him, he would take off to the opposite end of the field.

Besides his parents, Joe was preceded in death by four brothers and ten sisters, his wife on February 24, 1947, and daughter Wanda, on March 31, 1974 and her husband, Dean Jensen.

Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Willard (Marjorie) Murphy, Dexter, Iowa, Mrs. Ray (Josephine) Shaefer, Canon City, Colorado, Mrs. Mildred Henry, Omaha, Nebraska and Mrs. Gerald (Lucy) Cave, Dexter; grandchildren and great grandchildren whom he deeply loved, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, July 26, by the Rev. Robert Farr and the Rev. Jerry Evelsizer at the United Methodist Church, Dexter, Iowa. Vocal music was provided by Robert Lawson accompanied by Mrs. K. M. Chapler on the organ.

Serving as casket bearers were Bert Winn, Ray Lenocker, Kenneth Gebbie, Russell Horn, Verne Algreen and Jasper Lenocker. Honorary casket bearers were Dwight Barr, Leon Wetrich, Russell Abild, Hobart Newton, John Willrich, George Trowbridge and Verle Christensen. Floral tributes were cared for by Mrs. Verne Algreen and Mrs. Roy Evans.

Interment was in Dexter Cemetery, Dexter, Iowa. Professional services by Link Funeral Home, Stuart, Iowa.
