Death of H. J. Springmire

H. J. Springmire, father of Dr. Fannie S. Parks and Mrs. Grace Bridenstine, died suddenly at the home of Dr. Parks on Monday evening. Mr. Springmire, who was almost 78 years old, had been in usual health. About five o’clock, he complained of not feeling well and severe pain followed, which was greatly relieved at eight o’clock, although Dr. Parks observed that his heart action was very low. Just before retiring, Mr. Springmire decided to wind the clock and as he reached out to do so, fell dead.

Mr. Springmire came to Winterset nine years ago and has made himself indispensable to many households by his skill as a gardener and general utility man. He was never idle; kind and helpful, a man who will be much missed.

Brief services were held this afternoon at the Parks home at 3 o’clock, conducted by Rev. George D. Rogers. The remains will be taken to Tiffin, Iowa, for burial.
