Page 3, Column 3 & 4Adel — A service for Vernon E. (Mac) McCleary, 91, of Adel was held Oct. 31, 1983 at the Chamberlain-Fisher Funeral Home at Adel with burial in Oakdale Cemetery. Mr. McCleary died Oct. 27, 1983.
He was born in Madison County on Oct. 14, 1892 to John and Mary McCleary and married Hazel G. Junkin in 1920.
Mr. McCleary had lived at Adel since 1929 and had owned Dick and Mac’s restaurant at Adel. The couple later spent several years in Alaska as cooks for a construction company.
A veteran of World War I, he was a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
There are no immediate survivors.
