Judy Kay Carney (Maxson), 74, passed away at the Madison County Memorial Hospital on Friday, March 6, 2020.
Judy was born January 27, 1946, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Waunita and Rodney Maxson. She graduated from East High School in 1964. Judy met the love of her life, Joseph Dale Carney Sr., while working at Broadlawn’s Medical Center. They married after a short courtship of three months on May 3, 1969, to have a long marriage of almost 51 years.
The couple had a small farm in Winterset to foster her love for animals and children. Everyone knew Judy’s passion was caring for others, which included having a career working at Children & Families of Iowa for 28 years. She was a member of Winterset Seventh-day Adventist Church.
Judy is survived by her husband, Joseph; children: Jamie (Jennifer) Carney, Laresa Carney, Joshua Carney, Jacob Carney, Andrew Fath and Kayla Carney; siblings, Geneva Helm and Michael Maxson; several foster children, grandkids, nieces, nephews and friends.
Judy was preceded in death by her children, Joseph Carney Jr. and Darcy O’brien (Carney); her parents; paternal grandparents, Cora and Elmer Maxson; maternal grandparents, Leah and Lawrence McVey; and foster sister, Shirley Norris.
A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, April 19, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. at the Winterset Seventh-Day Adventist Church, located at 903 W. Summit Street. A light luncheon will follow. Remembrances may be made in the form desired by friends and family.
