Vella Ann Beebe

Vella Beebe, 94, of Winterset, passed away on Monday, March 30, 2020 at Azria Health Care Center in Winterset. Vella was married to Robert Beebe, and to this union came four amazing children, Larry, Dan, Jeff and Launa.

Following her schooling, Vella was asked to become an educator due to the lack of teachers at the time. She agreed to the position and started her new career. She enjoyed her job as an educator and would tell stories of her five mile walk uphill to and from the school house every day, no matter the weather. When her time came to leave her position as a teacher, she found herself working as a nurse’s aide and physical therapist for many years. Later on, she moved over to be a cook at the Winterset High School. At around age 80, Vella officially turned in her towel and retired.

Vella enjoyed her kitchen. She was a master baker and loved to bake fresh pies for everyone to enjoy. She could be found selling pies down at the local farmers market with her good friend Ruby Adams. She also had a great passion for quilting and crafting. Most notably, she sewed a quilt for all of her grandchildren to cherish. Vella had also enjoyed woodworking on the side and would be seen selling wooden crafts with her husband Robert at the Covered Bridge Festival every year. Lastly, Vella loved getting out and about to attend as many events as possible to support her grandchildren.

Vella was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Beebe; son, Jeff Beebe; parents, Roy and Vesta Dodd; daughter-in-law, Barb Beebe; and her dog, Bitsy, with whom she shared a bedtime snack of ice cream with every evening.

She is survived by her three children, Larry (Dorothy) Beebe of Dallas Center, Dan Beebe of Holstein, and Launa (Mike) Reed of Winterset; daughter-in-law, Joan Beebe of Winterset; 9 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; and her dear friend, Ruby Adams.

Following CDC recommendations on large gatherings, there will be no open visitation or funeral service at this time. Services will be private but website streaming will be available on her obituary tribute wall beginning at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, April 4, 2020 at caldwellparrish.com.

Memorials may be directed to the family for later designation.
