Earlham—A funeral for John William Hurst, 89, of Earlham and formerly of Dexter was held Aug. 13, 1988 at the Christian Church at Redfield. Mr. Hurst died of a heart ailment on Aug. 10 at the Earlham Care Center. Burial was in the Panther Creek Cemetery at Redfield.

The son of Fred and Georgianna Malone Hurst, he was born at Mitchellville on March 28, 1899. He graduated from high school at Mitchellville and then joined the U.S. Army, serving in World War I. He married Anna Katrina Miller at Page, Neb. on Dec. 24, 1924. He was a retired farmer, having farmed in both the Altoona and Redfield areas. He was a member of the Christian Church at Redfield.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and a brother, Raymond.

Survivors include two sons, Donald of Dexter and Fred of Warsaw, Mo.; two sisters, Carrie Thomas of Mitchellville and Phoebe Bailey of Adel; a brother, Lawrence of Redfield; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
