Anderson Bird

Anderson Bird was born in Fulton county, Illinois, Jan. 6, 1841 and died at his home in Atwood, Kansas, April 6, 1924. At the age of seven he moved with his parents to Iowa, from which state he enlisted in the civil war in 1861. He served through the entire war and received an honorable discharge in 1865.

In April 1864 he was married to Elizabeth Ann Peach. To this union were born seven children: Mrs. J. H. Cox of Atwood, Kans.; Mrs. T. H. Travis of Winterset; C. W. Byrd of Shawnee, Okla.; Mrs. W. E. Beal, deceased; Mrs. J. F. Edwards and Mrs. S. D. Koski of Atwood, Kans. One child died in infancy.

In 1886 he came from Iowa to Kansas, where he entered a homestead near Atwood, moving to Atwood in 1912, where he has since resided. Anderson Bird joined the Christian church at Winterset 1864, and in 1912 he replaced his membership in the Atwood Christian church, where he served as an elder for several years. Mr. and Mrs. Bird lived such true christian lives that they led all their children to become christians.

Five children with their husbands and wives, 29 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and a host of friends mourn the loss of their loved one.

Funeral services were conducted on April 7th at the Christian church in Atwood, the pastor, Rev. Cook, officiating. Interment with full military honors was made at the Chardon cemetery, the American Legion having charge of the ceremonies at the grave.
