Page 3, Columns 5, 6 & 7Clarence Ellsworth Smith of Linden, Iowa, was 74 when he died August 24, 1978 at the Greene County Medical Center at Jefferson, Iowa.
Clarence was born to Frank and Ruth Denton Smith at Lorimor, Iowa, July 26, 1904. He received his education in the Macksburg schools.
November 17, 1949, he was united in marriage to Leona Cutshall at Creston, Iowa. He farmed near Van Meter for 20 years. He retired to Linden in 1964.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, one brother and his wife, Leona.
Surviving are a brother, Lee Smith of Linden, a sister, Mrs. Glen (Laura) Hess of Winterset; children, Mrs. Gary (Marcia) Devilbiss of Perry, Mrs. Randy (Martha) Reed of Perry, Mrs. Doug (Grace) Devilbiss of Martensdale, Terry Smith of Linden and step-son, Dwayne Rogers of Wilson; as well as children Robert Smith of Yreka, Calif. and Delores Richey of Sacramento, Calif., twenty grandchildren and three great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Services were held Monday, Aug. 28, 1978, at 3:00 p.m., from Chamberlain-Fisher Funeral Home in Adel. The Rev. Paul I. Nelson officiated. Interment was at the Chapel Cemetery near Van Meter, Iowa.
