Susanner Hamner

Susanner Hamner was born at Urbana, Illinois, June 10, 1842, and died at the home of her son, E. Hamner, 613 north Poplar street, Creston, at 7:30, July 5, 1926. She was 84 years old.

She was the daughter of Benjamin and Ann Susan Childress and came to Madison County with her parents 1854, and resided here nearly all her life. She lived a few years in western Iowa and Nebraska. She moved to Creston in October, 1923, and resided there until her death.

She was the fourth child of a family of ten. All of them have now passed away. Her mother died when she was 12 years old and she stayed with her father until she was 26 years old, caring for her younger sisters and brothers.

She was married in 1867 to William Hamner, who died August 17, 1925. To this union were born seven children, five of them dying in childhood. She is survived by one son, E. Hamner, Creston, and one daughter, Mrs. Oma Childress, of banning, California; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday afternoon, July 7, at the Methodist Church by Rev. Homer Baumgardner. Interment was in the Prairie Lawn cemetery at Spalding.
