Kolton Eivins

Kolton Eivins, 16, of Winterset, died Friday, February 21, 2020, in Adair County from injuries of a car accident. Celebration of Life Services will be 2 PM Sunday, March 8, 2020, at Kolton’s home, 2558 Bittersweet Avenue, Winterset, Iowa, 50273. Pastor Ben Carter-Allen will officiate. Burial will be at the Wight Cemetery north of Macksburg. Visitation will be Saturday, March 7, 2020 from 4-8 PM at the Jackson Building in Winterset. Family will be present.

Kolton Alan Eivins, son of Rachel (Berry) and David Eivins, and brother of Kayle Eivins was born September 7, 2003, in Des Moines, Iowa. Kolton was a sophomore at Winterset High School. Kolton was very active in the Winterset FFA, Madison County Youth Beef Team, Des Moines Clay Crushers, Amateur Trap Shooters Association, National Skeet Shooting Association (NSSA), National Sporting Clays Association (NSCA), and USA Shooting.

Kolton and his family traveled the Midwest for many shooting competitions. As a Freshman Kolton finished sixth High Overall in the men’s Iowa SCTP. At state trap, he shot a 198 out of 200 targets and placed in the top ten. Before his shoots, Kolton was known for listening to TCU Baseball’s “The Grind” to get pumped up. At the end of a shoot you can guarantee he would be finding a place to trout fish, bow fish, or go cat-fishing.

Growing up, Kolton loved spending time with his friends and family on the farm. If he could dream it he would do it. If he was caught red handed his famous words were “Get Over It!” Kolton had a passion for the great outdoors, no matter what season he would always keep busy. Hunting with his bow was his real love whether it was for deer, fish, or turkeys. Once deer season was closed you would find him calling racoons and coyotes, shed hunting, and when it warmed up, he would be mushroom hunting. When he was asked where he found them, he would always respond with “In the timber.”

Kolton was never afraid of a challenge. As he loved working on his dirt bikes, fixing up cars, or wrenching on anything. One of his specialties was running a high-pressure washer cleaning the mud off of everything that he thought could go down the dirt road. He had such an eye for detail especially with his wood working and wood burning. Kolton entertained a great number of friends on the farm with his homemade zipline over the pond and car hood sled. If they weren’t on the farm, they were at a lake on the jet skis or kayaking down the river strategically setting ditty poles. After a long day you could find them on a sandbar by the river having a bonfire with Kolton cooking burgers or as he would say “living off the grid.” Oh, the stories he would tell!

Kolton was a diehard for the FFA Haunted House. With a clown mask and a weed eater or a chainsaw he could most definitely put the fright in Halloween. Kolton also lived for the county fair. He loved to show his white-faced market steers and was always the first to jump behind the wheel to back the horse trailer up. It was a week filled with friends, food, and water balloon fights.

Kolton is survived by his parents Rachel and David Eivins; sister Kayle; maternal grandmother Ellie Berry and Robert Morse, paternal grandparents Marvin and Lillian Eivins; aunts and uncles; Becci Berry and the late Darrell Smith, their children Ashton and Lane Smith; Bob Berry and wife Melissa, and their children Roger, David, and Charlie; Sue and husband Dave Brakhane, and their children Matthew, Nicholas, and Lily; Jan and husband Kevin Regan, and their children Jack and Sophie.

Proceeded in death by maternal grandfather Roger Berry; maternal great-grandparents Catherine and Roger Berry; Lester Stonehocker; paternal great-grandparents Florence and Jack Thomas; Ruth and Floyd Eivins.
