Page 6, Columns 7 & 8Roswell Paxton was born Dec. 19, 1877, in Madison County, Ia. He was the fourth of six children born to George and Margaret Paxton.
When he was but four years old his father passed away and the responsibility of raising a young family was left to his mother. Each of the children assumed their share of responsibility and helped their mother with the farm work.
He attended country school in Jefferson township.
Following the death of their mother, Ross and his brother Jess purchased a farm south of DeSoto. A few years later they purchased their present farm and lived there until illness forced him to leave.
The past three years he has made his home with his niece, Mrs. Albert Rychnouzy, near Diagonal. July and August of this year, he was in the Madison Co. Memorial Hospital in Winterset, and since then was confined to his bed at his nieces home. He passed away Oct. 25th at the age of 79 years 10 mo. and 15 days.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, and two brothers. One sister, Inez in California, three nieces, and two nephews, all children of his sister, Jasie, and other relatives and friends are left to mourn his passing.
