Des Moines, IowaMargery Lowry, 83, died Wednesday, February 12, 2020 at UnityPoint Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. A celebration of Margery’s life is pending at St. Charles Parish where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Marge was born June 26, 1936 in St. Charles to Lloyd and Gladys (Neal) Black. She graduated Roosevelt High School in 1954 and married Leo Walton. In this union four children were born: Patricia, Michael, Kimberly and Robert. Marge moved to Amarillo, TX for a brief time and started her accounting education, completing her CPA program in Des Moines. In 1967 she married the love of her life, Dennis Lowry, and his children Tammy and Stacey completed the family.
Marge worked in the construction industry as an accountant for many years. After her retirement she worked for over 10 years at Cross Ministries where she helped provide families with food, shelter, clothing and educational needs. Marge and Dennis ran Toy Parts Peddler and published The American Toy Trucker out of their home for a number of years. Marge was a member of the American Business Women’s Association (ABWA) for over 25 years and volunteered for St. Charles Parish and other Des Moines churches. Marge was an animal lover and loved spoiling her grandchildren. Her hobbies included reading, crocheting, baking, shopping, preparing family meals, and attending luncheons with various groups, her favorite being the ABWA lunch bunch.
Survivors include her children: Patty Byers of Des Moines, Mike (Tammy) Walton of Slater, Tammy (Ken) Welch of Black Creek, WI, Stacey Beyers of Monticello, Robert (Christine) Walton of Urbandale; grandchildren: Jamie B., Josh, Jamie, Chad, Kyle, Hunter, Jessica, Bobby, Janece, Ryan, Emily, Adam and Alex; fourteen great grandchildren; nieces and nephews: Karen, Sheryl, Rich and Miles. Marge was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Dennis; daughter, Kimberly; granddaughters, Kimberly and Jody; great-grandson Christopher; siblings: Florence, Vic and Virginia.
