Van Meter, Special: May 6th – Word has been received here of the death of Alva H. Smith. Mr. Smith, who was about 65 years old, was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Ira Smith, and a former resident of this vicinity. He had been living in Colorado Springs, Colo., about eighteen years. His death occurred there on Sunday, May 5th. He was paralyzed about twenty years ago, and has ever since been confined to a wheel chair. The past two years his health has not been good.
He is survived by his wife, a daughter, Mrs. Everett Lowe of Des Moines, two grandchildren, Virginia and Richard Lowe, two brothers, Willis W. Smith, and H. R. (Doc) Smith of Van Meter, and a sister, Mrs. J. M. Norman of Houston, Texas.
The body is being brought here. The time of the funeral has been tentatively set for 2:30 Tuesday afternoon at the Fisher funeral home. Burial will be in the Booneville cemetery where his parents are buried.
