JohnstonJulia Louise Songer. 86, passed away Sunday, November 6, 2005 at Mercy Hospice, Johnston.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Theresa's Catholic Church at 11 a.m. Thursday, November 10, 2005. Visitation will be Wednesday 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home, with a vigil service at 7 p.m. Interment will be at Glendale Cemetery.
Julia was born July 10, 1919 in Bevington, IA to Otto and Mary (Boudewyns) Bussanmas. She graduated from St. Joseph Academy in 1938; received her RN degree at St. Anthony's in Rock Island, IL in 1941 and became an Army Nurse. She married John Songer in 1945, and together they had one daughter, Margaret Ann (Maggie). Julia retired from Veteran's Hospital, Des Moines, after 25 years of service.
She was a member of Catholic Daughters; NARFE; was past president of Catholic Women's League and Bishop Drumm Guild; and volunteered for HCI for 25 years.
She loved to travel and play cards, but, most of all, she loved family and friends. She will be missed by many.
She is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Margaret Ann (Maggie) and Doug Nichols of Urbandale; granddaughter, Bridget (Marc) Jablonski of Cave Creek, AZ; grandson, John and fiancée, Kaylyn Lyon of Boise, ID; sisters, Frances Bussanmas and Clara Ann Guisinger, both of Des Moines; Janet Keenan of Johnston, IA; and Sister Corita Bussanmas, B.V.M. of Kansas City, MO.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; brothers, James and Otto Bussanmas; sister, Sister Mary Gertrude Bussanmas, B.V.M. Memorial donations may be made to Mercy Hospice Johnston.
