Lois "Darlene" Fundinger of Fruita, CO died May 29, 2011 at Family Health West Nursing Home. She was 96 years of age.
Lois "Darlene" Brooker was born September 12, 1914 in Winterset, IA to Blanche and Nelson Brooker. One of 12 children, Darlene quit school in the eighth grade to care for her younger siblings after her father's untimely death.
She married Ralph "Bud" Fundinger on September 30, 1933.
Darlene held various occupations in her life. She was a truck driver, owned a restaurant in DeSoto, IA, she was a neighborhood beautician, sold Avon and was employed by Woolworth's in Grand Junction, CO. After 20 years of marriage, Bud and Darlene were blessed with a son, who died at birth and then with a daughter, Marcia. In 1962, Darlene and family moved to Colorado, settling on Orchard Mesa and they ran a service station.
Darlene enjoyed cat fishing, playing cards, embroidery and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She had an extra special bond with her oldest great grandson, Uriah, who was born on her 90th birthday.
Darlene's survivors include her daughter, Marci (Rick); grandson, Bradley (Stephanie) Tilton; granddaughter, Amy Tilton; sister, Madeline Bennett of Des Moines, IA; great grandsons, Uriah, Noah and Malachi and a great granddaughter, Monroe, who is still on the way along with several nieces, nephews and friends.
The family would like to give a special thank you to the CAN's and nursing staff at Family Health West.
A visitation will be start at 9:00 a.m. and a funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 2, 2011 in the Callahan-Edfast Mortuary.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the National Arthritis Foundation at 2280 S. Albion Street, Denver, CO 80222-6447.
