Winterset, IowaEdward J. Miller, Jr., age 90, of Winterset, passed away December 7, 2019 at his home.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 11 at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home, Winterset Chapel, with family present to receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 7:00 p.m. Burial will be at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the family where a donation will be made to the V.F.W. Post #8142 and the American Legion Green Rogers Post #184.
Ed was born to Edward and Helen (Lambi) Miller on November 23, 1929 in Greenfield, Iowa. He served in the Army in Korea from 1951-1953. He was a member of the American Legion and the V.F.W., where he served in the Honor Guard for several years. He married Karen Tuttle on June 6, 1959 and together they raised four children.
He was a life-long auto and small engine mechanic. He worked for over 20 years at Penn-Dixie Cement Co. at the Winterset quarry. He had a small engine/lawn mower repair business at his home in his spare time. Upon his retirement, he worked at Organic Technologies composting.
Ed enjoyed his family, camping, woodworking and coffee with his friends.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife of 60 years, Karen; sons, Jim (Laurel Scholten), Tom (Mary Gonzales), and Marty; and daughter, Michelle (Jeremy) Knutson; eight grandchildren, Melissa (Derek) Smolinski, Krystal (Charles) Chambers, Luke Miller, Tanner Miller, Tara (Clint) Thilking, Tawnee Miller (Teddy Lundy), Cayden Knutson, and Kara Knutson; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Cecelia Darling; a brother, Mike; and sister-in-law, Carol Miller.
