Norma Jean Moreland of Mesa, Arizona, age 88, passed away on September 21, 2019 at Friendship Village Hospice Home of advanced Alzheimer’s disease.

Norma was born January 31, 1931 on the Compton family farm in Earlham, Iowa, to Marion and Emma Compton. She attended Earlham schools, played four years of basketball at Earlham High School. Upon her graduation on May 14, 1948 she immediately began employment at Royal Typewriter Co., Inc., of Des Moines.

Norma and Dorrence “Moe” began their courtship after his return from World War Two in 1945. The two announced their engagement in 1948. On May 8, 1949 they married at the First Presbyterian Church in Earlham.

Norma is pre-deceased by her husband Dorrence “Moe” and her brother Bill Compton.

She is survived by her sons: Jerry and his wife Linda, Danny and his wife Dee, her grandchildren; Christina, Jonathan, Kerri, Kelli, Katie, Heather and Elizabeth; her great grandchildren, Ember, Korben, Reagen, Ellie, Cole, Owen, Caidyn, Westyn, Maggie, Thomas, Zev and Luna. She is beloved to her family and will be dearly missed.

Norma and Moe led full lives, after retirement the two spent a decade traveling in the United States of America in a Recreational Vehicle, finally settling down in Arizona. Through all her travels her heart and soul remained in Earlham.

Norma was an accomplished and award winning quiltest, a talented cross stitch artist. She developed a deep love of Hull Pottery and DeGrazia art works.

Her cremains along with Moe’s will be entombed in the Moreland family plot at Penn Center Cemetery in Earlham, Iowa at a date to be determined later.

In lieu of flowers and cards, the family asks that donations be made to the Alzheimers Organization in her name.
