Job Scott Wilson

Job Scott Wilson, son of Alexander and Carolyne Wilson, was born at Wheeling, West Virginia, February 25, 1852, and departed at his home near Winterset, Iowa, at the age of 73 years, 9 months and 21 days. He was one of seven children of which four survive him. They are William of Mt. Pleasant; Allie, of New London; Jonah, of Washington, and a sister, Mrs. Jonah Martin, of Kansas City, Kansas.

In his early life, he moved with his parents to Ohio and from there to Lee county, Iowa, where he grew to manhood.

On December 17, 1874, he was united in marriage to Theby Foggy, to this union five children were born of which three survive him. They are Mrs. H. J. Mewhirter, of Griswold; Scott Wilson, Elliott, and Mrs. Clyde Hogeland, of Bloomington, Nebraska. In 1876 he moved with his family to Montgomery county and in a short time settled on the farm known as the Ben Bishop farm. In the year 1885, in June, his wife passed away.

On the 21st of August, 1887, he was again married to Minnie Copeland, of Elliott. To this union eleven children were born of which nine survive him. They are Mrs. Luther Anderson, Red Oak; Mrs. Earl Lowman, Elliott; Mrs. Harry Laire, Red Oak; Mrs. Otto Nelson, Red Oak; Mrs. Geo. Murrell, Clarinda; Cora, Russell, Theodore and Gordon, who are at home.

He spent the greater part in the vicinity of Elliott until about seven years ago when he moved with his family to Madison county where he spent his remaining days.

At the age of 46 he confessed his faith to God at the Methodist church at Elliott. He was a kind and loving husband and father, who devoted his time to his family and work. He was a good man in character and was a friend and neighbor to all who know him.

He leaves to mourn his death besides his family, a large number of grandchildren and great grandchildren, a host of relatives and a wide circle of friends.

Funeral at Lowman church near Elliott, Monday, at 2 p. m., conducted by Rev. L. W. Nixon, of Elliott. Interment at Lowman cemetery.

Transcriber's note: Date of death as calculated as well as from the Iowa Death Certificate was December 4th. It is likely that the funeral "Monday" was December 7th.
